what's new? well, we went to Ireland at the end of October until early November. Funny how before when we went, the first thing people would ask was, "oh wow! how was it?"... Now, the first thing everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, asks is, "Oh wow! how was it with a baby on the plane?" Let me tell you, we were sweating it leading up to the flight. I was googling the hell out of "traveling with baby/traveling with a 9 month old/baby meltdown plane" you get my drift. We were more prepared for this flight than we were for anything else, ever. So here we are, marching into the international terminal, so many bags... so much crap for such a small little guy... we manage to get through security with no meltdowns and arrive at the gate. it's funny, people smile at Liam, give him the googly eyes, but you can smell their fear: fear that they will be seated next to us for the next 9 hours of an overnight flight. I told Kieran, "we've become that family we hated for every flight we've ever been on, you realize this?" When you have a baby, you get to pre-board before everyone else. So we are seated and ready for take off, right next to the door where they are boarding the plane, and you see EVERYONE'S reaction when they step on and see the Spelmans. you see how they frantically search their boarding pass and compare it with the row you are seated in with your angelic son. you see them give a huge sigh of relief as they move on back ... or you see the color drain from their face as they stow their carry ons next to your diaper bag of fun. well, let me just say this: Liam was an absolute gentleman. not a peep, folks, not a peep. both there and back. and I'm not just saying that because he's my awesomesauce spawn. ask anyone on that flight, we were stopped at the airport and complimented about how great our baby was. and my response: well, duh.
on the flipside - we pretty much had to re-sleep "train" him when we got back. and i was sicker than a dog.
then i was in a wedding at Notre Dame. and then it was Thanksgiving. Liam ate stuffing, sweet potatoes and mashed potatoes. He loved it all!
his new trick: opening his mouth for the camera.
showing off his chompers.....
