So I voted.
I ran at 5:45 this a.m., but should have been standing in line to vote, cuz I waited in line for an hour...then I had to rush home, shower, work 20 minutes of bond court in Skokie (we have the day off when it's a Presidential election....another Cook County perk....but I opted to work for 20 minutes for some overtime pay....crime rate in Skokie is tiny compared to the city and I do get a full day's pay -- yipee), and then head to the DENTIST for the beginnings of a crown (I broke my tooth eating a slim jim a couple months back....I don't even like slim jims that much, but whatever). So I had a busy day.
I got a ticket (it admits 2) for the Obama rally tonight in Grant Park, but I am weighing the pros and cons of attending this historic event:
Pros - It would be awesome to tell my kids (someday) and friends that I was able to attend this historic event, and possibly having photographic proof of said attendance; the weather is wonderful today and it's not supposed to be really cold tonight.
Cons - 1 word: clusterfu*k -- over 1 million predicted attendees and ONLY 200 port-a-potties (sorry, but the ratio does NOT work out favorably for me when I have to tinkle); we'll probably be stationed BEHIND Barack and the speakers would be broken, hence we'd be standing in the middle of Grant Park surrounded by strangers and no visual or sound, whereas Kieran's baby (aka: our TV) will show it and we'll actually be able to see and hear Obama in the comforts of our living room; can't bring in alcohol to Grant Park (or blankets, or chairs, or strollers - which would hold my alcohol since we don't have a baby); Secret Service agents wouldn't be "in" on any jokes about "dropping bombs" in said port-a-potties....
I know it's "un"American and "un"spirited, but we'll probably stay home....Kieran's neck hurts and I just had my broken tooth drilled to a nub and a temporary "tooth" cemeted on and the 5 shots of novacaine are wearing off (but not until I ate my Panera soup like an invalid in front of a group of senior citizens probably thinking I was mimicing them with all my drool). Too bad the tickets are non-transferrable.
OH WELL, AT LEAST I VOTED LIKE A GOOD CITIZEN!
