friday randomness

It's been a boring week so I am going to do a random Friday post. Yes, I am grasping. I got nothin'. I couldn't imagine having to be a writer for a living. Being clever comes naturally for me, but everyone has an off-week. :) (i kid!) :)

So my baby brother (he's 20) is coming up this weekend with some friends for the Cubs game tomorrow. They are coming up tonight and I am hoping and praying they don't stay up all night playing whatever the socially acceptable college drinking game is at the moment so that I can get my shut-eye for my 12-mile training run at 6 am.

Otherwise, I am looking forward to hanging out with them and having fun starting Saturday whenever the Cubs game is over. I just hope they make it back to our place in one piece. And I also hope I will have some pictures to post after it's all said and done (and that they will be appropriate to post on the blog without any sort of viewer warning in the title).

Finally, I find it strange that a cup of Starbucks coffee is so much more expensive than Dunkin Donuts, but when you go to the store to buy the coffee beans, Dunkin has that stuff marked up like it's a rare truffle. The other day at Dominick's: $8.99/lb. Starbucks coffee beans to $11.99/lb. Dunkin....I went for the generic brand. It's tough times - America cannot afford to run on Dunkin in this economy. So I asked the lady at Dunkin this morning why it's so expensive in the stores and she just stared at me. I noticed she had "Manny" tattooed on her neck in cursive and a non-filled in teardrop tattoo just below her right eye and I let it go. Even I am unwilling to debate with a female gangbanger at a Dunkin Donuts located in a neighborhood outside of my comfort zone (I was running late to brew my generic beans this morning...forgoing coffee is not an option though!).
