Vail, CO - Helmut & Tanya's wedding
We had an amazing time in Colorado for Helmut & Tanya's wedding. We left Saturday, Sept. 8th and came back on Monday, Sept. 10th. The wedding was Sunday and the weather was perfect. The altitude is hard to get used to, you feel winded just walking up a slight hill or going up a few stairs. Vail itself is about 8000 feet above sea level. You also have to be careful because you are that many feet closer to the sun -- Kieran and I both got some sun while we were at the wedding at the TOP of the mountain, which we took a gondola ride up to the top (higher than 8000 feet, obviously). Also, the winds at the top of the mountain the day of the wedding were about 40-50 mph so there was little point in doing your hair beforehand. :) I also ran my long run for the weekend through many scenic areas of Vail village and along the stream that can be seen from our hotel balcony. The first 10 minutes were tough, I almost quit, but then I became more used to the huffing and puffing.
The picture above is the view from our hotel balcony. The stream is just at the bottom of the picture and the ski slope / lift area is just to the left. That is the lift we took to the top, you can't see the top from this picture.
Kieran took the picture above while we were driving back to Denver from Vail at the end of our trip.
Kieran and I after the wedding, walking back to the gondola to head back down the mountain. While it was warm and sunny for the actual ceremony, as you can see, rain clouds started rolling in, the wind picked up, and it got extremely chilly. That is the view from the top of the mountain, for the most part.

I'm so jealous. Vail is the absolute best....and most people don't realize that it's just as much fun during the summer months. Thanks for sharing!
