Weekend in Galesburg

Yes, I have been a bad blogger! I don't even have a good excuse like "I was sick" or "I was swamped with work/condo/other duties"....I got nothin' except I am a lazy, lazy person. Which is funny because, as many of my friends and family already know, I love to talk, especially about myself and what occurs in my daily life. What better way to express myself than by constantly updating MY (our) blog about ME (us)? .... Anyway ....

Friday after work, Kieran and I headed to my beloved hometown of Galesburg, Illinois. I had signed up for a 4 mile race back in January that I was planning on running with my step-dad on Saturday morning. When I signed up, I was oh-so-confident about running a sub-10:00 min. mile and beating the pants of my dad, because when I signed up, I was running almost everyday, really improving my times, basically being awesome in all things treadmill. Sadly, my dream was not realized on Saturday morning. Not only did my dad beat me by about a minute and a half, but he also beat the girl I was scoping out ahead of me the entire race with, again, dreams of (cue "Chariots of Fire" theme song) overcoming her at the very last leg and possibly placing in my age group (yes, I sneaked a peek at her race bib and saw we were in the same age group - there was a trophy at stake!). I chalk it up to being sick for literally a month with pneumonia-like symptoms and being unable to keep up my training for that time. Excuses, excuses, I know. Regardless, the race was still fun (aside from the SNOW flurries and country road hills involved) and I felt a little less guilty about gorging myself later that night with Taco Pizza, cake and ice cream.

We celebrated my birthday early with my family since we have no plans to head back to G-town anytime soon....so Mom made my favorite cake (banana cake, it's delish) and we had cookie dough ice cream. That was after the feast of Taco Pizza from Happy Joes. oh, and did I mention that my mom and I split a baked potato from Hungry Hobo for lunch? Yes, it was definitely a pig-out day for me. So much so that when I got on the scale back in Chicago on Monday morning, I had gained 2 lbs. Yikes.

We left early Sunday morning so I could come back in time for Becky's bridal shower in Northbrook. I have no pictures from anything that happened this past weekend, which is terrible because I actually did have my camera with me. Again, sheer laziness on my part. I am going to work on that.

This weekend, it's Mexican and Karaoke (2 of my favorite things) for my birthday. Kieran hates karaoke about as much as I love it. I am hoping there will be pictures....and I am hoping they are not too incriminating!
